!SURPRISING SALVATIONS!
MOSES, THE
ABNORMAL MAN

HOW MOSES' SALVATION
WAS SURPRISING:

1. HIS UNIQUE LIFE—Cast adrift, raised by Pharaoh’s daughter, exiled…

2. GOD’S SUDDEN, SURPRISING APPEARANCE—While Moses is hiding out in the middle of nowhere, God finds him.

3. ITS CHALLENGE—God tasks Moses with representing Him before Pharaoh.

H E B R E W S   1 1

By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.

The etymology of the name ‘Moses’ is still under debate. Egyptian? Hebrew? A combo?...................

It is amazing how differently artists perceive a subject.

I liked the soft coloring of JAMES TISSOT “Moses Laid Amid the Flags”, ELIZABETH JANE GARDNER “Moses in the Bulrushes” and JERRY THOMPSON “Moses and the Burning Bush”

My very favorites are #4 Tyranov and #16 Alma-Tadema and of course the fenster. Thank you, Dan

I just love the style of Lawrence Alma-Tadema in #16 & 17.
Just so clear. Beautiful!

From wkpd:
After Tadema spent two years (!) working on the painting, his wife pointed out wryly that the infant Moses was now a toddler, and need no longer be carried.

LOL!

What's the old saying? "Variety is the spice of life?"

Clearly, we are agreed the Alma-Tadema is a Masterpiece with a Capital M.

All the others portrayed the moment of discovery at the water’s edge, but Lawrence showed us the actual possession of the babe, and the immense power of that possessor. It would take eighty years for Moses finally to be freed from it.

I too liked Alma-Tadema. Very nice work.
Many of the Burning Bush paintings are outstanding also.

The clarity of colors, the light and the smoothness of finish made him a favorite with the public. He had his detractors who called his paintings spiritually vacuous.

the Burning Bush paintings

I imagine--not being a painter, I can only imagine--that the burning bush is quite a challenge to portray.

Being largely unfamiliar with his portfolio, I don't know whether they have a point. But this painting certainly seems loaded with spiritual meaning, for those who know Moses' biography and Exodus.
